Kuwait says 3 troops injured as air defenses intercept Iranian missile, drone attacks

KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait's Defense Ministry said Saturday that three service members were injured when debris fell at Ali Al Salem Air Base in northwestern Kuwait, after the base was targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles.

In a statement on X, ministry spokesperson Saud Al-Atwan said Kuwaiti forces were conducting defensive operations to counter waves of missile and drone attacks and protect the country's airspace and sovereignty.

He said debris landed on the base as air defenses intercepted incoming threats, causing minor injuries to three personnel and limited damage.

Separately, Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported earlier in the day that at least 12 people were injured as a result of Iranian strikes, citing the country's Health Ministry.

Earlier Saturday, the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran. Iran responded with attacks on bases in several Arab countries, as well as military sites in Israel.
