ISLAMABAD, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan received 3.6 billion U.S. dollars in workers' remittances in December 2025, up 16.13 percent year-on-year, officials from the State Bank of Pakistan said on Saturday.
According to the central bank, the inflows were recorded at 3.1 billion dollars in the same month of the last year, whereas monthly remittances were up by nearly 13 percent, compared to 3.2 billion dollars in November last year.
During the first six months of the current fiscal year, remittance inflows stood at 19.7 billion dollars, marking an 10.67 percent increase in the same period of FY25, said the SBP officials.
Saudi Arabia remained the top source with 810 million dollars sent in December. The United Arab Emirates followed with 726 million dollars, posting a 15 percent increase. Meanwhile, remittances from Britain rose 28 percent, while Gulf countries saw a sharp 39 percent jump.
Economists in the country believe that the higher remittances help control the trade and current account deficits, saying increased inflows ease pressure on the local currency of rupee and boost Pakistan's economy.
