RIYADH, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia is set to host the eighth season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on January 28 and 29.
The competition will kick off in Diriyah, Riyadh, with a pair of night races in desert surroundings, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
The Diriyah E-Prix Season seven opener hosted the first all-electric night race as part of the 2020/21 calendar.
The inaugural night race further added to Formula E's ongoing commitment to support environmental, economic and social sustainability initiatives around the world.
In Season seven Diriyah E-Prix, Mercedes-EQ's Nyck de Vries took the first Formula E victory in the opening round at the Diriyah Circuit.
Sam Bird took the second victory in his debut event with Jaguar Racing in Round 2, beating Robin Frijns from Envision Virgin Racing with DS TECHEETAH's Antonio Felix da Costa finishing third.
