ADEN, Yemen, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Forces loyal to the Yemeni government shelled on Sunday positions held by the Houthi rebel militia in the country's oil-rich province of Marib, a military official told Xinhua.
"The Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces shelled Houthi-controlled sites in the southern part of Marib, killing nearly 15 rebels," the local military source said on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, Yemen's ministry of defense announced that it carried out a heavy bombardment on several Houthi sites on various fronts in Sirwah and Al-Jubah districts of Marib.
The ministry claimed that the bombardment left dozens of Houthi rebels killed or injured and destroyed their military vehicles.
It said the Saudi-led coalition also bombed sites and gatherings in various flashpoint areas of Marib Province.
Earlier in the day, the Saudi-led coalition announced killing of 110 Houthi militants and destroyed about nine military vehicles of the rebel group.
The coalition noted that 15 air operations were launched against the Houthis in the turbulent province of Marib within the past 24 hours.
The Iran-backed Houthi militia recently intensified its military operations against Marib and succeeded in seizing large areas of the province's southern parts despite a series of daily airstrikes carried out by the Saudi-led coalition.
