SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Monday that his government will seek to find a way during the remainder of his presidency for restored talks between South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and between the DPRK and the United States.

"I will consider the remaining one year of my term to be the last opportunity to move from an incomplete peace toward one that is irreversible," Moon said in a televised address to mark the fourth inauguration anniversary of his five-year tenure.

TEHRAN -- Iran on Monday confirmed for the first time that it is in talks with Saudi Arabia to defuse tensions, official IRNA news agency reported.

"The removal of tensions between the two countries in the Gulf region is in the interest of both nations and the region," Iranian Foreign Ministry Saeed Khatibzadeh spokesman said at his weekly press briefing.

DAMASCUS -- The head of the Higher Constitutional Court Jihad al-Laham announced Monday that the approved presidential candidates can start their election campaigns as of May 16.

"The court reminds the accepted candidates that it's their right now to start their presidential campaigns starting from Sunday, May 16, 2021, until Monday, May 24, 2021," al-Laham said.
