MARAWI CITY, Apr. 23 (PIA)--Achieving a peaceful environment contributes to the success of Marawi rehabilitation.
This was emphasized by Secretary Eduardo del Rosario, chairperson of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) and head of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), during the Iftar dinner with traditional leaders Thursday, April 22.
Addresing members of the Marawi Sultanate League, Del Rosario reiterated the objective of the Marawi rehabilitation which is to make it a catalyst for growth and sustainable development, redevelop good governance in the process, and establish a peaceful environment.
"Pagnagawa natin ang tatlong yan (if we do these three), then we can shout to the world that the Marawi rehabilitation is successful," he said.
Thus the TFBM chief called on the traditional leaders to work together with the government towards building a peaceful environment in Marawi.
"All these infrastructure projects are nothing if at the end of the rehabilitation the peaceful environment that everybody sought for will not be attained. Kailangan ang peaceful environment ay maachieve natin otherwise babalik pa rin tayo sa ating pinagmulan na problema," he pointed out.
Just a week ago, an alleged sub-leader of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute group remnants was killed in a joint law enforcement operation in Barangay Guimba, this city.
"Ibig sabihin, nandito pa rin ang lawless elements, meron pa rin tayong mga kababayan na nakatira dito sa Marawi City na hindi pa rin talaga nag-embrace on what a good society should be," Del Rosario said.
[It means that the lawless elements are still here, we still have kababayans living here in Marawi City who still have not really embraced what a good society should be.]
He told the traditional leaders to cooperate and unite to thwart the massive build-up of lawless elements and prevent a second Marawi siege.
The TFBM chief also urged them to advise their relatives [if they have some] who are still in the Maute group or with ISIS to return to the fold of the law and become productive citizens of the society.
"We must all work together towards building a very peaceful environment, and that is the only time that we can say that we will be successful in the rehabilitation of Marawi City," he emphasized. (APB/PIA-ICIC)
