TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Esteghlal of Iran failed to get three points against the UAE's Al Ain in Group D of the AFC Champions League Matchday Four on Monday.
With the draw Esteghlal football team remains top of the standing with six points, two points clear of Al Ain.
Three minutes before the half time whistle, Mame Thiam's third goal of the competition restored parity from the spot after Farshid Esmaeili was brought down inside the box.
Al Ain continued to dominate and push for an equalizer in the second half, and it was finally rewarded in the 78th minute when Japanese defender Tsukasa Shiotani unleashed a powerful shot that left the Iranian goalkeeper helpless.
Al Rayyan of Qatar also defeated Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia 2-1 in Doha and sits second with six points. Al Hilal remains bottom of the table with two points.
Esteghlal will host Al Rayyan on Matchday Five, while Al Ain welcome Al Hilal to Hazza bin Zayed Stadium next month.
